about

These piano improvisations were originally the bonus tracks for my 'Honley Civic Archives Volume 1' album in 2018. I sold old reel to reel tapes each containing one of these tracks to accompany the album and give it a physical release. (Check the original album Bandcamp page to see some cool photos of the tapes and a bit more info...).

They're all completely improvised and I didn't have anything planned before recording started other than the tones used and to have everything recorded into the tape machine. They're all piano based apart from one, which is a really creepy organ sound that I love to use. I sat down and just let my hands figure out weird melodies and passages, trying to conjure up some kind of tribute to Keith Jarrett's 'The Köln Concert'.

Some of these actually ended up being fleshed out as proper tracks on Honley Civic Archives Volume 2 and I think my track 'Blackwood' started out as one of these.

I thought it'd be nice to master all of the bonus tracks properly and collate them into a giant album with a few videos showing my methods and processes. I hope you enjoy them. T xx
